Hunza Valley
Forts, orchards and a ring of seven-thousanders.

Hunza is where most first trips to the north begin, and for good reason. Karimabad sits on a sunny shelf above the river, with Baltit Fort watching over terraced fields and Rakaposhi and Ultar rising straight behind.
Spring brings apricot and cherry blossom; autumn turns the poplars gold. In between, long clear days make it easy to combine forts and cafés with lake trips and short hikes.
Highlights
- Baltit and Altit forts in Karimabad
- Sunset from Eagle’s Nest at Duikar
- Boating on turquoise Attabad Lake
- Passu Cones and the Hussaini suspension bridge
- Apricot cafés and handicrafts in the old bazaar
Travel tips
- Carry cash — card machines are rare beyond Karimabad.
- Book October stays early; autumn is the busiest season.
- Dress modestly in villages and ask before photographing people.
