Deosai Plains
The Land of Giants, high above the tree line.

Deosai is one of the highest plateaus on earth, a rolling green upland at about 4,000 metres that is snowbound for most of the year. In summer it fills with wildflowers, marmots and, if you are lucky, Himalayan brown bears.
Most visitors come on a long day trip from Skardu; camping by Sheosar Lake is the way to see it at its quietest.
Highlights
- Sheosar Lake and its mountain reflections
- Bara Pani stream crossing
- Wildflowers in late July
- Chance sightings of brown bears and golden marmots
Travel tips
- Altitude is high — move slowly and drink water.
- There are no shops; we pack lunch and warm drinks.
- Roads open only once the snow clears, usually in June.
