Gilgit
The crossroads of the Karakoram, Hindu Kush and Himalaya.

Gilgit is the regional hub where three great ranges meet. Most travellers pass through on the way to Hunza, but a day here rewards you with ancient rock carvings, busy bazaars and river views.
With an airport and good hotels, it also works as a base for Naltar and day trips up the Karakoram Highway.
Highlights
- The Kargah Buddha carving
- Gilgit bazaar and dry-fruit markets
- Confluence of the Gilgit and Hunza rivers
- Rakaposhi viewpoint on the way to Hunza
Travel tips
- A good place to stock up on cash and supplies before heading further north.
