Hiring a Car with Driver for Northern Pakistan

Corolla, Prado or coaster? How to choose the right vehicle for your route and group, and what a fair daily rate covers.

For most trips to the north, a car with a local driver is the most comfortable and flexible way to travel. You stop where you like, change plans when the weather changes, and leave the mountain driving to someone who knows every bend of the Karakoram Highway.

Choosing the vehicle depends on the route and the group. A sedan such as a Corolla or Civic is perfect for paved roads to Murree, Naran or Hunza. For Skardu, Deosai or any trip with rough sections, a 4x4 such as a Prado or Land Cruiser is far more comfortable and safer. Families and groups of eight to twelve travel well in a Hiace, and larger groups in a coaster. Places like Fairy Meadows and the Deosai tracks need local jeeps, which we arrange with drivers from the area.

Daily rates usually cover the vehicle and driver. Fuel, tolls, parking and the driver’s overnight stay are typically added according to your route, so always compare complete quotes rather than headline prices. Ask whether the driver has worked the route before and how old the vehicle is.

Book early for October and the summer holidays, when good 4x4s are in demand, and share your full route when you ask for a quote. A good operator will suggest realistic daily distances and point out where an extra night will make the trip far more enjoyable.
